Malé doesn't do much open space, which makes Sultan Park all the more precious. It sits on what were once the grounds of the sultans' palace, and today it's a compact, well-kept garden of big shade trees, lawns and quiet benches.
The National Museum stands within the park, so it's easy to pair the two: an hour of history, then an hour sitting under the trees. Look out for the hanging ring swings — a favourite for photos.
It's a short walk from the Old Friday Mosque and the main waterfront, so slot it into a morning on foot.
