Hulhumalé was built on reclaimed land next to the airport, and its eastern shore has become Greater Malé's favourite beach: a long stretch of white sand with clear, shallow water. The beachfront is lined with cafés and guesthouses, there are kayaks and paddleboards for hire, and the sea wall is a popular spot for a sunset walk or run. Weekends get lively; weekday mornings are blissfully quiet. Getting there: buses and taxis run over the Sinamalé Bridge from Malé, and the drive takes around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.
